Trekking
in the Himalayas is a refreshing and wonderful
experience. Spending days out in the mountains
is one of the most effective ways of breaking
away from outlived thought and behavior patterns.
The effort of walking combined with its rhythmic
character gives the mind space to wander off
the beaten track and naturally slow down while
body and mind come into tune with the silence
of the surrounding nature. After a few days
of adjusting to this new way of life, a general
feeling of well-being pervades mind and spirit.
The wide-open spaces seem to penetrate into
the trekker. The trip challenges each participant
on physical and psychological levels, pushing
beyond false and imagined limitations of each
person. This shared experience is unique and
on the inner level no one trek is like another.
Trekking is a means of experiencing ourselves
without make-up. Going to remote spaces outside
corresponds to the reaching of remote places
inside.
From
our base in Naggar in the Kullu valley we have
a multitude of possibilities for treks and walks
in altitudes ranging from 2000 to 5000 m. The
descriptions below can give you an idea of the
short excursions and long treks we offer. However,
you will find there just a few options. There
are many more ways to go out in nature, suiting
every ability, length and season. If you are
interested in details on any particular trek,
please drop us an email and we will send you
more details.
Tours
and Trekking coordinator: Martin
I
have been living in India for most of the time
since 1998. A lawyer by education, I exchanged
my office work for the benefits of the outdoors.
During the past years of living in the Himalayan
states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranachal, I
have explored many areas of this extensive mountain
range on foot. My interest lies in a combination
of the physical exercise and the experience of
flora and fauna in the mountains. Merging meditation
with walking offers the potential of settling
down within oneself. I have done endurance sports
(long-distance running, cycling, climbing and
hiking) since I was a teenager and I've always
been fascinated by the depth of experience that
opens up naturally by outdoor activities. A sunrise
over pink Himalayan ice-peaks, watched from the
sleeping bag, symbolizes the majestic beauty of
outer and inner world that is the quintessence
of a Himalayan trek.
Traveling
and working in India during the past years has
helped me to approach some kind of understanding
of the Indian society and its culture. This
experience and my knowledge of the contemporary
and ancient issues that keep modern India engaged
will help you to see India for what it was and
what it is.
Trekking
Manager: Chotu
Chotu
comes from a small village in the mountains of
Eastern Nepal. He has come to Himachal Pradesh
from Nepal in 1989. He has been leading treks
since four years after accompanying many groups
in various positions and keeps himself constantly
occupied with perfecting our supplies and material.
His profound knowledge of the Himalayas in general
and the area around the Kullu valley in particular
is a great asset for every trekking group. Together
with his cheerful approach and his ability to
guess even unspoken wishes his expertise on the
mountain makes everybody feel safe and secure.
