Jeep-Safari:
Naggar to Manali via Kinnaur and Spiti Valley
This
fabulous trip follows the old trading route from
the Indian plains up the Sutlej river into Tibet.
From Naggar we will cross the Jalori Pass and
enter Kinnaur district. This area is not well
known yet striking with its sheer yet green drops
and ancient tower-like temples. Following the
valley up we pass Kinner Kailash, an impressive
6000m-peak, and continue into the tribal belt
of the Spiti region while moving close to the
Chinese border. As we ascend the vegetation will
leave us and we enter the crystal-clear rock desert
of the Tibetan high plateau. The mystic Hindu
temples here make way for chorten and Mani-walls,
signs of the Buddhist heritage of the area. We
will visit the world-famous monasteries of Tabo,
Dunkhar and Ki. There are manifold possibilities
of side-trips depending on your interests. From
Spiti we continue our great sweep into the Lahaul
Valley and from there over the Rohtang Pass back
to Manali. The trip can be done in one to three
weeks. We will use good and reliable jeeps for
transportation and spend the nights in local guesthouses.
Jeep-cum-walk:
Mandi and Rewalsar Lake
This
excursion to the old capitol of the district,
Mandi, is a rewarding trip to more moderate altitudes.
The small town offers temples and bathing ghats
still in their original setting as few tourists
come here and hence development is slow. A night
in the palace of the Raja that has been converted
to a hotel while still retaining its ambience
of pomp and decay is a great experience. It is
only a short drive to Rewalasar lake, a peaceful
place surrounded by hills that is holy to Buddhists
as the Guru Padmasambhava is said to have stopped
here on his way to Tibet. A small hike away are
the caves in which he is supposed to have meditated.
Trips
to the Dev Boohmi, the spiritual heartland of
the Himalayas, in the state of Uttaranachal
Following
narrow winding mountain roads we can organize
tours and treks into the traditional heartland
of the Himalayas. The best-known spot probably
is the source of the river Ganga at Gaumukh,
a day's hike beyond the temple of Gangotri.
From here hikes can continue up the glacier
to an astounding arena of mountains overlooked
by 7000m-peaks. We are well acquainted with
the area and can show you amazing spots barely
any other tourist will venture to. The famous
shrines of Yamunotri, Gangotri and Kedarnath
apart, we also offer trips and hikes to less
well-known destinations that are of equal if
not superior beauty. The Garwahl Himalayas have
only recently become a major tourist attraction
and the atmosphere is still raw and real.
